In the early 90's, key waveI researchers developed and implemented image compression algorithms on par with the JPEG standard. Using a modified Kravchuk polynomial basis set, we demonstrated equivalent compression capabilities, but with the benefit of better reproduction of sharp edges and high contrast regions.

Ultrasound For Noninvasive Surgery

Several waveI staff members have extensive experience in design and development on parallel computation hardware, such as Thinking Machine's CM2 & CM5, IBM's SP1 and SGI's Onyx2. Using the CM2, waveI researchers developed realtime simulation software to model hundreds of ultrasound sources. The sources were distributed in such a way that their combined energy could be focused on a small region (i.e. brain tumor) while surrounding areas were left unharmed.
